Granco Clark is the leading North American manufacturer of aluminum extrusion systems and equipment. It faces competition from other North American and European manufacturers.

Although the company is the North American sales leader in its industry, the company’s website was not easily found in search engine results when using search terms that related to the systems and individual technologies it manufacturers and sells. As a result, people searching for potential suppliers of extrusion equipment would often see other suppliers’ sites rank more highly in the search engine results. This not only made other prospects more visible in the search engine results, but it also created questions as to the relative standing of the company in the industry. If it truly was the North American leader, why did they not rank highly in the search results?

Because the company sells both complete extrusion systems and individual technologies, it was important that the company ranked highly in the search engine results, regardless of whether prospective buyers were searching for an individual component or an entire system. Therefore the company’s site needed to be optimized for a wide range of applicable search terms potentially used by search engine users.

The initiative included revised site architecture and landing pages for key search terms, new and revised copy, new file structures, and new and revised content throughout.

It was determined that the search engine most used by prospective customers of Granco Clark was Google; Yahoo was a distant second. Accordingly, the site was optimized for Google, with secondary optimization for Yahoo where it would not diminish the desired results for Google.

Results of the site optimization now place the company’s site and its related pages in some of the top search results for Google for a multitude of key search terms related to the company’s technology offerings. A summary of the ranking results from Google is listed above. Results from Yahoo were similar. Rankings were as of two months after posting the optimized site.
